Grenada Recce Trip

I was required, for business purposes, to attend some Meetings in Grenada over 4 days… I mean it’s terrible but someone has to do it! Saying that, I think I’m paying heavily at work with an alleged form of jetlag.

We drove to Gatwick and took advantage of Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal Premium parking, which allows you to be only 2 minutes away from Departures. You leave your key, they park it on – site for you. You also have the option of Premium Fast Track security passes! I mean What more do you need?!

Straight into Zone A to Bag Drop with Virgin, I already had heard the plane was full so had no extra leg room / exit seats / Premium upgrade options at my fingers to take advantage of ( At my height – this is always heartbreaking! :-)) . However as a silver member it means you can at least take advantage of the premium line. ( Small wins!)

Flight was delayed, yet we still landed in Grenada on time ( Whose complaining?!) probably worth noting the plane lands in St Lucia for a hour and a half. Both Catering and further passengers board and also a crew change. The flight is then a short 35 minutes to Grenada.

During your flight, if you aren’t in receipt of a Grenadian passport, you’ll need to fill in an immigration card, it’s two sides and you must fill it out before getting to passport control. Make sure you fill out the bottom departure record which the officer will give you back to retain and you’ll have to show it when you depart the island, do don’t lose it. Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport has one of the longest runways in the Caribbean, although a small airport, it works quite well with some friendly staff.

For this stay, We were going to be situated in the South of the Island in St. George’s which is where the airport is located.

Once landed, we were picked up by friends and taken straight to Umbrellas, a bar on Grand Anse Beach. I strongly recommend the Bourbon BBQ Crispy wings.

We then checked into our hotel, Radisson Grenada Beach, which has some nice grounds, two pools and sits right on Grand Anse Beach with a great set of staff.

That afternoon we toured some of the venues we are using later on in the year for some parties, which including clubs like Bananas, meeting the owners and managers along the way.

We popped into town to see the Rhum Runner team and then visited a lovely marina bar called Prickly Bay.

In the evening we returned to Prickly Bay for drinks and listened to a singer / band called Trio – who is absolutely fantastic! We then moved onto the Brewery ( West Indies Beer Company) and then finished our night at Bananas which was great.

The next morning we headed to the beautiful Aquarium restaurant, which does very good food and sits on a beautiful beach, you almost feel is exclusive.

Our final day was spent with some old friends, We walked to the other side of Grand Anse Beach, along the beach, to The Edge restaurant where we had a nice meal and some drinks and finished our Sunday liming in the sun ( and sea) outside Umbrellas, where they have a live band on Sunday evenings.

The next morning, we spent by the pool for a couple of hours, packed, checked out and headed to KFC for their Honey BBQ wings before checking in at the airport. After we checked in, instead of going straight through, outside of the airport door,is a bar. It’s a much better place to sit instead of at a gate waiting around. You’ll find both locals and people waiting for flights or pick ups.Just make sure you keep an eye on the time and go through about an hour before and don’t miss your flight, there are no annoucements at the bar!

At the gate you’ll find another bar and a few shops. Our flight boarded on-time and arrived earlier than expected into London Gatwick and that was it for yet another short but sweet trip. 2016-05-30 11.19.29
