Your Holiday is fast approaching and you need to think about packing your suitcase, how do you remember what to pack? for many, with great difficulty! Fear not… This post of course, Your travel packing checklist. Favourite it! Packing can be overwhelming and stressful without preparation. This Ultimate Guide will let you know exactly what to pack for a trip and How to pack luggage to be prepared for almost anything…if you have 0.5 seconds to pack in your busy lives as I do… 2016-02-18 16.48.08Essentials you need in some form to even consider leaving an airport.

  • Passport ( Ask yourself if you’ve seen it in the last hour before you leave the house!)
  • Travel Insurance Docs with contact number in emergency ( EHIC Card for Europe)
  • Boarding Pass ( Physical or Mobile) or E – Ticket ( Some airlines charge for a re-print)
  • Train Tickets
  • Photocopy of your passport
  • Travel Money / Travellers Cheques ( Smaller denominations for Tips & Taxi’s)
  • Transfer or Taxi information
  • Pen ( You always need to fill something in when travelling)
  • Visa
  • Bank / Credit Cards ( Ensure you let your bank know you’re travelling)
  • Driving Licence ( Good form of ID to keep on you other than your passport)
  • Vaccinations Card
  • Smart phone or tablet with all necessary apps pre – loaded.
  • Use Gadget Buddy to Insure all your gadgets before leaving

Worst thing is, when you have to fill out an immigration card and your passport is in the overhead locker, buried in your bag and you’ve got to dig it out) Keep your documents safe in a document holder and all in one place so you don’t forget anything and always utilise a safe in your accommodation, taking the photocopies with you, if necessary.   • Have you got an itinerary? I would strongly suggest you keep this next to you whilst packing, and pack with a purpose! With some extras for contingencies and unplanned things.

 

  • Roll things, it takes up much less space

 

  • Pre – Arrange your Hand Luggage the night before, Keeping all liquids under 100ml    (Post coming soon about the best ways to prepare your hand luggage!)

 

Toiletries

Note: Buy Toiletries at your destination, if the brands you use, are readily available, this will save you kgs with regards to weight restrictions. Also Sellotape the tops or put your toiletries in sealable bags to avoid any spillages onto your garments.

  • Suntan Lotion
  • Aloe Vera Lotion / Gel ( You get burnt, you’ll bloody thank me!)
  • After Sun
  • Travel bottles for your shampoo / conditioner / shower gel ( Muji also have some great ones)
  • Cream ( Be careful of sweetly scented ones if going to any Mosquito Territories)
  • Toothbrush/ Toothpaste
  • Contact Lens / Solution
  • Lip Balm
  • Hair Products, Clips, combs, brushes,pins,

Medicinal

Technical Stuff

  • Chargers, portable chargers
  • The correct travel adapters
  • Extension Lead – 4 way ( This is a god send for me, and alleviates having a million adapters)
  • Headphones
  • Music Docking Station ( They are in the most discreet shapes these days!)
  • Camera or Video Camera
  • Selfie Stick
  • Digital Luggage Scale
  • Security Padlock – TSA Approved.

Accessories 

  • Sunglasses
  • Cross Body Bag for everyday
  • Hats
  • Neck Pillow ( For Flight and long drivers, transfer times)

  • An iron ( I always ask my accommodation if they have one, if not I’ll buy one there and leave it to the establishment, or bring a travel one)
  • Travel Guide / Travel Book / Travel App
  • Translator App
  • Download City Map from Google ( So you can use it without using Data)
  • Bag for Dirty Laundry
  • Wet Wipes
  • Sewing kit / Firstaid Kit
  • Contraception
  • Sanitary Towels / Tampons
  • Scissors / Nail Clippers / Tweezers / Sellotape

Clothes / Shoes

  • Socks, Underwear, Vests ( enough for multiple changes in hot climates)
  • Bag for every day use and one for the evening
  • Shoes – Comfortable / evening / sandals
  • Flip Flops
  • Cardigans / Light Jackets / Waterproof Jacket
  • Swimwear
  • Nightwear
  • Scarf / Sarong / Pashmina
  • Evening Wear ( Formal / Dressy)

Hopefully this list helps you with things to pack for your a trip, i’ll certainly be referring to it for my next trip.

  1. Hi Lerease, I also find that the Avon Skin So Soft, Dry Oil Spray works for me when travelling to tropical climates. It help to reduce mosquitoes from biting you. There is also a repellent called ‘OFF’ which is excellent. They both can be purchased through the Amazon website.

    I cannot remember if you mentioned a fan to help cool you down, Aspirin for the flight to help thin your blood. This helps prevent your blood from clotting and also Dioralyte for rehydration.

    Some travellers have a fear of flying. It’s a good idea to speak with your GP who may be able to recommend a prescription for valuim. This will help to relax your muscles. There are also natural remedies such as Rescue Remedy.

    Virgin Atlantic offer a Service called ‘Seat Plus’ on their economy flights. This allows you to free up the seat next to you so you can stretch out a bit more. Don’t worry, it’s not a huge amount. Probably between £60-£80 each way.
